About Pixie
Hi, I'm Pixie, a Dramatherapist and Creative Arts Therapist, based in the Blue Mountains, in NSW. I hold a Masters in Creative Arts Therapies, specialising in Dramatherapy, from The University of Melbourne, and a Graduate Certificate in Creative Arts Therapies from Charles Darwin University. I am also a professional member of PACFA (practising counseling).
Through my practice, I have extensive experience of supporting neurodiverse children, young people and families with a lived experience of trauma.
I also hold a BA in Theatre, Performance and Creative Writing from The University of New England, and am a published performance poet and voice actor.
About Creative Therapies
Creative Arts Therapy speaks directly to the issue without unnecessary dialogue. In other words, creative therapies enable us to express ourselves in various ways without needing to use our voices directly. Clients process and express their emotions safely through embodied movement and stories to gain a greater understanding of themselves.
Approach
My methodology follows a client-led, trauma-informed approach, that ensures safe creative and empowering ways for children and families to express, heal, and grow.
My Process
I employ a gentle yet playful process that engages imagination and expression through story-building, drama, embodied movement, interactive storytelling, puppetry, sand play, character-building, and art-making.
Understanding Trauma
What Is Trauma?
Trauma is an emotional response to a distressing event that can cause lasting psychological effects.
Effects Of Trauma
Trauma is stored in our bodies. When we do not actively seek to address these traumas, they become part of our narrative and our identity, affecting the way we experience the world and engage with others.
Childhood Trauma
For those who have experienced childhood trauma, they are on high alert. Safety and emotional regulation are imperative for them when building a therapeutic connection with that child and their families.
Mitigating Trauma
When we are afforded the opportunity to understand the stories that reside within us, either consciously or unconsciously, through the safety of the dramatic space, our stories can unravel through the metaphorical narrative, providing a sense of release and understanding of the self.
